Role Overview
To undertake Site Engineering control and implementation of works on-site, including monitoring and reporting of progress.
Dimensions
Financial:
- Data collection through on-site records (diary, photographs, file notes).
- Monitoring of budget, including labour and plant in use in their section.
Organisational:
- No direct reports.
Interfaces:
Internal:
- Assistant Engineers and Site Engineers, Operations Team (all levels), Health and Safety Team, Commercial Team.
External: - Subcontractors, occasional interface with the Client.
Accountabilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
- Support the delivery of CSUK’s Sustainability activities.
Health, Safety & Environmental:
- Production of Task Briefing Sheets.
- Contribution to production of Permit to Dig, including briefing to the workforce.
- Deliver associated briefings.
- Conduct Safety Inspections.
- Identify hazards and contribute to the development of a Safe System of Work.
Engineering Control:
- Set out from primary control provided by others.
- Provide sketches detailing the setting-out information installed.
- Maintain survey equipment, including registers of equipment and testing regimes.
- Read and interpret information from drawings, schedules, and specifications.
Quality:
- Produce as-built drawings and records for every element of the works involved.
- Complete Quality Check Sheets and produce information for Handover Documentation in a timely manner in line with the programme.
- Maintain accurate records – Daily Diary, photographs, and records of site discussions.
Productivity:
- Measure actual materials used and reconcile with theoretical measures, reporting and investigating discrepancies.
- Work to the Weekly Programme (drafted by others) and mark up progress weekly.
- Contribute to the collection of data for Key Performance Indicators, including reasons for differences.
Commercial:
- Produce accurate daily diaries of resources, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, and outputs.
- Create weekly measures, take-offs, and schedule materials accurately, producing clear requisitions and following through to delivery.
- Understand what is classified as additional work and how to record it.
- Familiar with actual resourcing levels versus budget and reporting reasons for discrepancies.

Engineering Control:
- Competent in setting-out techniques, including the use of level & EDM, plus GPS.
- Ability to report issues with control and information provided.
Quality:
- Competent in reading and understanding drawings and schedules.
- Familiar with Activity Control Plans and the production of resultant information for handover files.
- Strong understanding of construction tolerances.
- Awareness and use of Specifications and other Contract documents.
- Skilled in producing detailed documentation for the handover of completed works.
Productivity:
- Ability to take off and schedule material quantities accurately.
Commercial:
- Knowledge of specifications and contract documents.
- Understanding of what constitutes additional works.
